NotebookLM, explained

NotebookLM is Google's AI-powered research and note-taking tool. You upload your own sources — PDFs, Google Docs, slides, websites, even YouTube videos — and NotebookLM grounds every answer in those sources, so it doesn't make things up. From your material it can generate summaries, FAQs, timelines, quizzes, flashcards, mind maps and Audio Overviews. The catch: that content lives inside the NotebookLM page, and there's no one-click way to save it as PDF. That's exactly what this guide — and the Chrome extension — fixes.

How to use NotebookLM

Getting started with NotebookLM

If you're new, here's the whole flow — from a blank notebook to study material in a couple of minutes.

Create a notebook

Go to notebooklm.google.com and click New notebook. Each notebook is one topic or subject.

Add your sources

Upload PDFs, Google Docs, slides, links or YouTube videos. NotebookLM reads them all.

Chat with your notes

Ask questions in the chat and get grounded answers with citations back to your sources.

Generate study tools

Open the Studio panel to create a Quiz, Flashcards, a mind map or an Audio Overview.

Export it

Use the extension's Export button to save any of it as PDF — chat, quiz worksheet or flashcards.

Install the extension

Add NotebookLM to PDF, Quiz and Flashcard Exporter from the Chrome Web Store, then refresh NotebookLM.

Open your content

Open the chat, or a Quiz or Flashcards canvas in the NotebookLM Studio panel.

The extension adds an Export button. Click it and choose PDF.
